A few facts about the option of cremation:
No casket is legally required for immediate cremation, just a simple container, which is strong enough to hold the body. It should also be noted that the crematorium requires the container to be of certain dimensions and manufactured from certain materials. Please check with your funeral director or the crematorium for the information required. This could be a box of sectional pine or pressboard and on rare occassions cardboard. Please note that when it comes to the selection of a cardboard container, many funeral homes have a weight restriction policy in place for reasons that can be explained to you by your funeral director. Families that require a more traditional service and opting for cremation as a means of final disposition, will have the selection of a casket or the use of a rental casket.
Very few crematories accept metal caskets; most require the container to be of a combustible material.
